END® is ideally suited for pre-concentration in a zero or minimum liquid discharge application with superior performance to reverse osmosis. The technology decreases the cost and operating expense for thermal evaporation or reduces the acreage needed for solar evaporation ponds. An electrically driven process, END® technology minimizes the resistance of every part of the desalination cell including electrodes, membranes, and perhaps most importantly, the membrane spacers. The result is a lower-energy pre-concentration stage to make evaporation and crystallization more economical. The process design enables high resistance to membrane scaling and fouling for difficult-to-treat liquid waste streams, and the END® system’s efficient design yields minimum energy consumption with maximum recovery.
