Position Title: Controls Engineer/Electrical Engineer

This position offers you the opportunity to join a fast paced and energetic company that is at the technical cutting edge of providing the world’s fresh water.  As the Controls Engineer, you will report directly to the company’s Engineering Manager and be located at our Houston, TX location.  You will primarily be involved in the design, build, and test of the electrical and I&C systems for product technologies used in water treatment.  At MI Systems we encourage a hands-on approach to engineering whereby you will be on occasion asked to help technicians resolve problems in the shop/field. This will require the willingness to work on a multi-disciplinary team and the drive to push the design process under tight timelines.

A successful candidate will be able to design a system architecture, program the HMI/PLC, and commission packages without direct supervision.

The Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required, advanced degree a plus.
  • 2-5 years of experience with control system design including PLC programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of components for PLC based controls systems including panel layout, architecture, sizing, relay logic, and communication protocols.
  • Experience with VFDs and PID control loops.
  • Experience with HMIs, SCADA & remote monitoring systems.
  • Experience with variable DC power supplies (100-600 VDC) is a plus.
  • Experience with Automation Direct PLC, Allen-Bradley PLC, and Siemens PLC products.
  • Thorough understanding of NEC.
  • Software programming (C#, Java, Python) experience is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and create P&IDs from scratch.
  • Experience with AutoCad.
  • Experience with water treatment processes a plus, not required.
  • A proven track record of promoting safety.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, high volume workplace.
  • Self-starter mentality, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • A natural problem solver.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required (domestic and international)

The Responsibilities

  • Take projects from very early open-ended state all the way through completion.
  • An ability to breakdown high level problems and take feedback from the team.
  • Mentor junior level engineers.
  • Establish Engineering Standards
  • Source all required instruments and components and creating BOMs.
  • Take a hands-on approach to wiring/assembling.
  • Create proper EE documentation such as: wiring diagrams, interconnects, panel layouts, JB design, PLC design, I/O lists, P&IDs.
  • Take ownership of electrical and controls design.

As the Senior Application Engineer, you will report direct to the Senior Vice President Business Development and be located at our Houston, TX location.

Applicant will become a member of a commercial team that has been formed with the primary purpose of promoting the company’s technology for water and wastewater treatment plants with emphasis on sustainability and environmental awareness. The successful applicant will work closely with our own commercial team and our various representatives to produce technical and commercial solutions. They will be encouraged to support this effort through personal presentations and visits to organizations and companies. Further support will be required through the attendance of conferences and exhibitions and they will be encouraged to participate by writing and presenting papers on various aspects of the technologies we offer.

The Responsibilities

  • Direct and support the activities in making sales calls, presentations, proposals, bid activities and contract negotiations.
  • Will include assessing the compatibility of bid specifications with the technology capabilities, estimation of the scope of the job, and coordinate the submission of valid proposals in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with all internal resources in establishing/maintaining equipment standards and cost efficiency.
  • Recommend improvements in products and processes.
  • Participate in trade organizations that will offer valuable insight into potential business and competitive products.

  • Review scope definition and project specifications, prepare system process simulation, develop equipment sizing, prepare cost estimates and technical and commercial proposals.
  • Participate in development of proposal Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Maintain knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the products in the global market.
  • Duties must be performed consistently with the company mission and values and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Quality: Ensure alignment of M I S customer and vendor quality control and quality assurance in bids.
  • Abide by and promote M I S HSE policy.

 

Required training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Industrial, Environmental, Civil or Mechanical Engineering is preferable
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the water and wastewater treatment fields with a portion of that experience in industrial related markets.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in system design, estimating and proposal generation.
  • Degrees in Chemistry or Biochemistry may also be considered depending on experience.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD and PowerPoint.

Desired Skill and Abilities of the position:

  • Ability to understand water and wastewater treatment solution designs when needed for the preparation and support of proposal bids and customer negotiations

The Responsibilities

  • Provide sophisticated calendar management for CEO/COO and Leadership team to include the Director of Human Resources. Prioritize inquiries and requests while troubleshooting conflicts; make judgements and recommendations to ensure smooth day-to-day engagements.
  • Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks that facilitate the CEO/COO’s ability to effectively lead the organization, including assisting with special projects; designing and producing complex documents, reports, and presentations; collecting and preparing information for meetings with staff and outside parties; composing and preparing correspondence; maintaining contact lists; making travel arrangements; completing AMEX corporate card expenses, and mileage reports.

Position Title:  Senior Process Engineer

Requirements

  • 7-10 years detailed process design experience.  Industry experience in the selection, design and engineering of the water treatment technologies and material selection will be highly valued.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering minimum, advanced degree a plus.
  • Good understanding of material requirements, codes and standards applicable to water treatment process equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with chemical separation, liquid-liquid separation, solid-liquid separation is a plus.

  • Perform process design on projects and proposals including, but not limited to material balances, PFD’s, P & ID’s, specification sheets, control philosophy, operating manual, etc.
  • Undertake the role of lead process engineer on larger projects, planning, guiding and checking the work of other engineers.
